They Thought They Were Free 50 Years Latter
Paraphrase

Before the Gestapo came for the communists,
the socialists, the trade unionists, the Jews, the weak,
the sick
and I did not speak out
because I was not one of them.
Now the virus is coming for my friends, my family,
my students, my babies, my disabled elders
and it doesn’t matter if I speak out or not
there is very little room for refuge
on the globalized face of the Earth.
